Life History of Mother Mariam Thresia

 

Bl. Mariam Thresia born as the daughter of Thoman - Thanda of Chiramal Mankidiyam, Puthenchira, on 26 April 1876.

   
Baptised at St. Mary's Forane Church, Puthenchira. on 3 May 1876.

   

Her first Holy Communion at the age of 9 at at the Chapel of Ambzhakad Monastery.
   
Bl. Mariam Thresia accepted Bl. Virgin Mary as her mother at the age of 12, after the loss of her own mother.

At the age of 15, she made an attempt to go to the wilderness to be in solitude with the Lord alone; but it was not realised.
   

Hence returned to the midst of the people of the parish. She spent a life of prayer and penance at home and served the parish church and the poor and the suffering around in the company of her three companions.

She met her life-long spiritual Director Rev. Fr. Vithayathil at a retreat in Puthenchira in the year 1902. Fr. Joseph Vithayathil was appointed Vicar of Puthenchira From 30 April 1902 till 1922. in 1922 he came to Kuzhikkattusery and remained the chaplain of the Holy Family Convent until he died on 8 June 1964. Bl. Mariam Thresia discerned the divine intervention in her life with the help of her spiritual Director. Her desire to hide within the walls of a convent remained strong and she continued searching the means to realize it.

 

 

Her request for a heritage/Solitary house was denied by the then Bishop till 1913.

   
In 1913 a solitary house was built for her. She with her companions started living there. And on 14th May 1914 her 'Ekanth Bhavan' was officially declared as the congreation of the Holly Family
In 1915 the first school of the congreation started.

In 1926 the blessing of the third house of the congregation at Thumpoor.
   

 

She died on 8 June 1926 of the fatal wound received on the day of the blessing of the Holy Family Convent , Thumpoor

   

 

She was buried in the chapel of the Holy Family Convent, Kuzhikkattusery
